A joint meeting by the Intellectuals' Forum for Secular Democracy and Millat Bedari Muhim Committee representing social and political face of Aligarh Muslim University fraternity was held recently. Speakers in this meeting highlighted the fact that successive Governments of Mahrashtra have chosen to ignore Srikrishna Commission report.

Justice B. N. Srikrishna was tasked with investigating the cause of Mumbai riots of 1992-93. The final report was submitted in 1998 but no action has been taken on any of the guilty party identified in the report.

Speakers at the meeting in Aligarh pointed out that at one hand Muslims involved in the 1993 Bombay serial bomb blast have been given the harsh punishment, for which they deserve, but on the other hand no action is being taken against those who initiated organized riots against Muslims and have been named by the Srikrishna Commission. The speakers strongly demanded that the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission must be implemented without any further delay.

They expressed concern over declining trends of Secularism in the country and pointed out that whenever any terrorist incident took place or especially in Maharashtra, Media as well as the investigating agencies without having any solid proof blamed Muslims thereby setting the trends for further investigations. Clearly this process is objectionable and may leave the real culprits out of reach.

The statement issued after the meeting stated that "although 27 inquiry commission reports, regarding communal riots against Muslims, have been submitted to the Government but no action has yet been taken" which suggests that it is difficult to get justice in India for Muslims.
