Kabul : Afghan security forces and US-led coalition forces have killed 17 Taliban militants in Kabul province, a coalition statement said Sunday.
In joint operations Saturday, the security forces targeted the militants in Zadran district, 135 km south of Kabul, and killed one militant and arrested 10, the statement said.
“Coalition forces conducted a second operation in Surobi district, 50 km east of Kabul, targeting the hideout of one senior commander of Hizb-e-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG) network,” it said.
“As coalition forces approached the targeted buildings, 16 armed militants engaged the forces which responded with small-arms fire and precision munitions killing the militants,” it added.
Taliban-linked insurgency has killed around 5,000 people this year in Afghanistan.
