Islamabad : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has cancelled his visit to Hong Kong in the wake of tension between Pakistan and India following Wednesday’s terror attacks in India’s Mumbai city that killed at least 183 people.
The prime minister’s press office Sunday said Gilani had cancelled the scheduled visit in view of the fallout of the Mumbai attacks on bilateral relations with India, Online news agency reported Monday.
The Prime Minister has cancelled his visit due to tense situation between Pakistan and India after the Mumbai carnage, the release said.
India’s Minister for External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Friday blamed “some elements in Pakistan” for the terror strikes in Mumbai.
Mukherjee Friday evening rang up his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was at the time visiting India , and sought to impress on him the need for Pakistan taking immediate action over the terrorist attacks.
He also reminded Islamabad to honour its pledge not to allow its territory to be used for terror attacks against India.
In the midst of widespread accusations that elements from Pakistan were involved in the macabre attacks, Qureshi cut short his four-day visit and left abruptly Saturday.
In a curious coincidence, terrorists targeted ten sites in Mumbai minutes after Mukherjee and Qureshi held talks in New Delhi and agreed to wage a joint fight against terrorism.
