New Delhi : Defence Minister A.K. Antony Monday called a
high-level meeting of the three Service chiefs to assess the security
scenario as New Delhi handed over to Islamabad evidence of the complicity of
Pakistan-based militants in the Mumbai terror attack, a senior official
said.
National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan and Defence Secretary Vijay Singh
also attended the meeting, that continued for nearly an hour.
“The defence minister today (Monday) held a meeting to review the security
situation. The meeting was attended by the NSA, three Service chiefs and
defence secretary,” a senior defence official said.
The meeting gains significance as India Monday handed over to Pakistan the
evidence linking Pakistan-based militants to the Mumbai carnage and
ratcheted up international pressure on Islamabad to eliminate terror
infrastructure from its territory.
“We have today given evidence to Pakistan of links between elements in
Pakistan and the terrorists who attacked Mumbai. It is our expectation that
the government of Pakistan will promptly undertake further investigations in
Pakistan and share the results with us so as to bring the perpetrators to
justice,” External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters here
Monday morning.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had called a meeting of the NSA and service
chiefs to assess the security situation in the country on two occasions in
the aftermath of the Mumbai attack, including a war room meeting.
