Lisbon : Manchester United's Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has made a public appeal for information about a missing child, Madeleine McCann, who went missing last week.
"I am very worried about Madeleine McCann. I ask that anyone who has information comes forward to find the child," Ronaldo said in an announcement broadcast on Sky News Wednesday.
McCann, who will turn four Saturday, disappeared from a hotel in Playa da Luz, Lagos, in Portugal's Algarve region last Thursday, while her parents were having a meal with family and friends in a nearby restaurant.
An official at Britain's embassy in Lisbon told media that Ronaldo volunteered to make the appeal as soon as he found out.
Portugal President Anibal Cavacao Silva told press that he was following the case closely and that he believed "the Portuguese police, working with international authorities, are doing all they can to find the child alive".
Some 180 police officers, 60 National Guard soldiers, 20 volunteers and several fire fighters are searching for the child.
