Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir government will move April 24 from this winter capital to the state’s summer capital Srinagar, where the offices will open May 4.
The practice of shifting the Jammu and Kashmir capital, called “darbar move”, continues since the Dogra rule started it some 135 years ago.
The secretariat remains in Jammu in winters, when the Kashmir Valley hits sub-zero temperatures. And when temperatures in the Jammu plains cross 40 degrees Celsius, the offices are moved to Srinagar.
A government spokesman said that the government offices will close in Jammu April 24 and reopen in Srinagar May 4.
More than 4,000 employees move up and down twice a year. The transition incurs around Rs.20 crore expenditure.
