New Delhi : A man convicted for “brutally” raping a minor in 2008 was Tuesday awarded an imprisonment for 10 years.
A city court also asked the convict, Bhagwan Dass, to pay a fine of Rs.5,000 after the statement of the victim was recorded and her medical reports corroborated the charges against him.
“The testimony of the child victim is so natural and trustworthy, directly pointing towards the accused to be the person who committed rape on her. Her medical exams reveal she was brutally raped. Even after three weeks (of the incident) her condition was precarious and she remained in hospital for more than two weeks,” Additional Sessions Judge Pratibha Rani said.
The victim’s parents reported the matter to the I.P. Estate police station March 20, 2008 – three weeks after the incident as Dass was arrested by police in another case relating to a rape in his residential area.
