The incident took place in New Usmanpur area when the masked robbers entered the ground floor house of Pawan Kumar Jain around 11 a.m. Jain, who deals in dairy products, was sleeping at that time. His sons were away at work at that time.

The police said robbers first bolted the house from inside, locked Jain in his room and held the women at gun point, while searching for the valuables.

“The family said the robbers have taken Rs.450,000 in cash and gold and silver jewllery worth Rs.1.6 million,” said a police officer.

The officer said the statements of the women of the house have been recorded and sketches of the accused are being prepared. A case has been registered and a forensic team has lifted some clues from the house.

The police said they suspected an inside hand in the robbery, with someone probably aware of the daily routine of the family having helped the robbers.
