New Delhi: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) chief Helen Clark met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday and discussed several partnerships to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
“Few countries have embraced the human development approach as strongly as India. India has produced a series of influential national, state, district, and municipal-level human development reports,” the UN agency said in a statement.
Clark also praised the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
“There are very many exciting aspects to this scheme, but most exciting of course is the benefit it can bring to women, men, and families,” Clark said.
“We hope by working 100 days per year, there will be more money for food for the family, more money for healthcare, and more money for people to be able to support themselves,” the chief administrator said.
