In a letter to BJS acting president Sangh Priya Gautam, Uma Bharti said she was resigning from the party post “in view of the political situation in the country” and her poor health.

“I am resigning from party presidentship and relieving myself of all responsibilities.”

She requested Gautam to appoint Baburam Nishad as the president of the party.

Uma Bharti, who is in New Delhi, could not be contacted but a senior BJS leader said: “She has resigned from the post of the president and not quit the party as is being made out in the media.”
