“There will be no hike in power tariffs in 2010-11,” the chief minister said.

The Delhi government had May 4 asked power regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) not to reduce tariff in the city. The state government and the power discoms wanted a hike in power rates.

The move had invited ire of the opposition parties which accused the state government of siding with the power distributing companies — BSES Yamuna, BSES Rajdhani and North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL).

The DERC after going through audit of the power companies had decided to reduce the power tariff by 20 percent, a move opposed by the companies.

When asked about DERC’s observation that the discoms did not give correct financial details in their representations to the state government, she said: “I do not think they lied to us.”

Asked about the government’s May 4 direction to DERC, she said: “The discoms approached us with a representation and so we only asked the power regulator to look into their grievances before finalising the tariff.”

A highly-placed government government source had June 10 told IANS that there will be no hike in tariff of power till the October Commonwealth Games.

Dikshit also holds the power portfolio.
