Mr Kunhalikkutty said that the visual media was essential to bring the transparency of the organisation to the people as well as to realize the development dreams of the people-friendly politics. The new channel would work for the advancement of the backward-minority sections and function as the voice of the good interests and development dreams of the general public. The channel would uphold and maintain the values and ethics of true journalism. He added that it would give importance to discussions reflecting the entity and culture of Malabar.

The channel would have three phases. In the first one, broadcasting would be available to cable television subscribers in the state only. Then the channel would be converted to a full-fledged satellite channel so that it would be available all over the world. The project is also aiming at a media city in the third phase.

Kerala already has around a dozen TV channels, among which four are news channels. The major political parties such as the Indian National Congress and the CPI (M) already have their own channels – ‘Jai Hind’ (Congress) and ‘Kairali’, ‘People’ and ‘We’ (CPI M). There are also reports that some major Malayalam newspapers are also launching their own channels shortly.
