On the second day of their official visit, the royal couple visited the Village where athletes were in full training mode for the sporting events starting Monday. His younger brother, Prince Edward, was also at the Village, with the Commonwealth Games Federation, Mike Fennell and Games Village Mayor, Dalbir Singh accompanying the delegation.

Camilla, dressed in a pale blue long shirt with white trousers, sported a white umbrella against the strong sun. Like her husband, she also went around to converse with sportsmen and women, most of them in minimalist clothing.

Charles went to all the areas inside the village, from the residential zone to the training venues. He also went to the cavernous dining hall, where he asked the athletes about the quality of the food. “It is very, very good,” said one of them.

He spoke to players from Trinidad and Tobago, Northern Ireland and Scotland, with all of them giving positive reviews of the Village – that had attracted much negative publicity just a week ago.

Charles also met one of India’s top boxers, Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh, who was training under his coach.

The prince seemed to be well aware of the state of Indian sports, as he started to praise the performance of Indian boxers in recent years.
