New Delhi: A 20-year-old National Cadet Corps (NCC) girl cadet from Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir was Thursday commended by Defence Minister A.K. Antony for her efforts during rescue operations in Leh after a cloudburst August last year.
Yashi Wangmo of 1 Jammu and Kashmir Girls Battalion of NCC was presented the Defence Minister’s Commendation Card at an investiture ceremony at the NCC Republic Day Camp here by Antony.
Antony honoured the girl cadet, who is a student of the local Government Girls Higher Secondary School, for motivating other NCC cadets of her area to join the rescue and relief efforts being carried out by army, air force, paramilitary forces and other government agencies.
“It is a proud moment for me that my daughter has been awarded for her dedication to her fellow beings,” an emotional Tsering Palmo, Yeshi’s mother who came from Leh to witness the ceremony, said.
Wangmo, a resident of Choglamsar in Leh which was the epicentre of the flash floods, is at present participating in the NCC Director General camp at the parade ground in Delhi Cantonment as part of the Jammu and Kashmir contingent.
