In a press statement distributed here late Thursday, the Council “condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack” that caused numerous deaths and injuries, and “reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.

“Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was also appalled by the blast which killed and injured Moroccans and foreign nationals, including tourists, his press office said in a statement late Thursday.

Ban “reiterates his firm rejection of the use of indiscriminate violence against innocent civilians and maintains that no political objective justifies or is served by such heinous acts,” his statement said.

A suicide bomber could have triggered the blast which ripped through the popular Argana Cafe in Djemaa el-Fna square in Marrakesh, leaving some 15 people dead, mainly tourists, and injuring many others.
