Ranchi : A Congress legislator in Jharkhand was Friday alleged to be on the run after it came to light that a youth, who reportedly wanted to marry his daughter, was found dead, police said.
Avinash Tiwari of Garwah district went missing under mysterious circumstances April 26. His body was found in Karra of Khuti district Thursday, police said.
The victim’s father has alleged that Sawna Lakra, a legislator from Khijri constituency, abducted and tortured his son for wanting to marry his daughter.
“On Friday, Binay Kumar Baski, the driver of the legislator, was interrogated. He has provided vital information which indicate the legislator’s involvement in the murder,” a police officer told IANS.
Police Friday raided many places but the legislator was not to be found.
Usha Lakra, the legislator’s daughter, has admitted that she knew Avinash Tiwari.
Meanwhile, the Congress has formed a three-member committee to look into the issue.
“Our party has taken the issue seriously and the party will act based on the report,” said Jharkhand Congress spokesperson Radha Krishna Kishore.
