The judge passed the order on a petition by Pramod Jain, secretary of the Sarojini Nagar Gymkhana bringing to the court’s notice that the sports committee continues to function even after the expiry of its term without holding election.

Counsel for the DDCA and sports committee prayed that the election process could not be initiated because of the hectic cricket schedule with the World Cup and soon after the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches being played at the Feroze Shah Kotla.

The defendants submitted that the election process would be initiated after the last IPL match, May 21.

The judge ruled that in view of the submissions by the DDCA and the sports committee and in the interest of justice the sports committee should be restrained from carrying out its functions and the DDCA executive should carry out its duties.
