Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University now has a developed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in the campus at par with other prestigious institutions in the country. AMU now has a high-speed internet connectivity of 1000 mbps existing under the National Knowledge Network project.
Prof. Qazi Mazhar Ali, Director, Computer Centre, Aligarh Muslim University said that AMU’s High-speed internet connectivity of 1000 mbps existing under National Knowledge Network (NKN) project was linked to AMU own ITC infrastructure thus giving a big push to IT operations in the University. The entire internet traffic has been migrated to NKN link since last July making it a primary link to manage primary information technology based activities of all kinds in the campus. This has resulted in high-speed data downloading by academic community of the university. The superfast connectivity has made possible the internet link for Worldwide Large Hadron Collider (WLHC) project of the High Energy Physics Laboratory of the Department of Physics to migrate all its high-tech research work to the NKN connected University system.
Prof. Ali further said that the towers required for providing an exclusive 3G/Wimax connectivity to the AMU community through BSNL have been erected and the equipment are installed. He said the connections will be available to the students, research scholars, faculty members and employees very soon.
For the first time the Computer Centre is in the process of extending access to some well-known software packages through the campus wide network. This will facilitate students, faculty members and researchers to use the software at their convenience without duplication of expenditure, he added.
Prof. Qazi Mazhar Ali informed that an online tracking system has been developed to facilitate the retired employees so that they can get from the comfortable confines of their own homes from anywhere in the world the status of their applications without physically visiting the University Administrative Block.
