Asked about the unprecedented security arrangements for a domestic game, a PCB official said it was to prove that fool-proof security could be provided to any team playing in this country.

“We want to make sure that there is no lapse which could send out a negative message,” said the PCB official not wanting to be named, reports the News International.

It is over 18 months since Pakistan hosted an international team from the day the the Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists on March 3, 2009.

“This event is being televised and the whole world is watching. Let the ICC decide whether we have done enough to build some confidence from the security point of view,” said the official.

The police and security guards of a private company have been deployed but the official said that they have the paramilitary Rangers on board as well. He added that the Rangers could be deployed for the semifinals and the final.
