Over 34,000 Indian Haj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia

Jeddah : Over 34,000 Haj pilgrims from India have arrived here for the annual pilgrimage.

According to a statement issued from the Consulate General of India, a total of 34,702 pilgrims have arrived from India, of them 1,823 pilgrims are in Makkah and 32,879 in Madina.

At least 4,401 pilgrims have moved from Makkah to Madina.

As of Saturday, four pilgrims have expired out of which three came through Haj Committee of India and one through a private tour operator.

A total 34,705 Hajis have come from different parts of India: Delhi (11,613), Guwahati (1,946), Hyderabad (3,085), Jaipur (1,795), Kozhikode (5,700), Lucknow (5,984), Mangalore (160), Ranchi (2171), and Varanasi (2,251).

So far, 127 Indian flights have brought these piligrims here.

The Haj to Makkah, the holiest city for Muslims, is obligatory in Islam at least once in a lifetime.

Madina, the second most sacred city for Muslims, is the burial place of Prophet Mohammad and also has the three oldest mosques.
