Mubaraqpur assembly segment has considerable number of people who shifted their base to Mumbai to earn their livelihood. During election time they all return to vote and are viewed by political parties as a potential vote bank.

“Maharashtra has Congress government and the North Indians are being assaulted there on the name of regionalism. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has never uttered a single word of sympathy,” said Azmi.

The SP leader, who was in the news after he was assaulted over Hindi issue inside the Maharashtra assembly, minced no words in targeting Rahul. “People of Bihar who are also North Indians and are facing the brunt in Mumbai gave a befitting reply to Congress in their state. The party is now out of political scene there. We should also give similar treatment to Congress in coming elections,” he said.

Presently, Mubaraqpur is represented by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Chandradev Yadav who is also Small Industries minister in the cabinet. “When no party leader is coming to the rescue of North Indians except SP supremo Mulayam Singh, you should also discard them,” he added.

Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded one Akhilesh Singh Yadav from Mibaraqpur constituency. The area has good number weavers with nearly 11 lakh power looms majority of them owned by Muslims. However with virtually non existent power supply and lack of infrastructure, the weavers are living in penury with several of them committing suicide.

Azmi assured that once SP assumes in power they will be provided with regular power supply and subsidy to bail them out from the crisis.
