New Delhi : The central government Tuesday recommended imposition of president’s rule in Karnataka and putting the assembly in suspended animation, a day after Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa quit office.
The chief minister, from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), resigned without facing a trust vote in the state assembly after coalition partner Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) declined to support the government during the trial of strength.
The decisions came after a late night meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) Monday, a few hours before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left on a trip to Singapore to attend the India-Asean summit and the East Asia summit.
