New Delhi : The Congress Wednesday said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna will prove his majority in the assembly and termed party leader Harish Rawat’s reported unhappiness over being denied the top post an “internal matter”.
Congress spokespersn Raashid Alvi said anyone who takes oath as chief minsiter is given time by the governor to prove majority on the floor of the house.
“In Uttarakhand, Vijay Bahuguna has taken oath and he will prove his majority within the given time,” Alvi said.
He said party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Birender Singh had interacted with legislators and Bahuguna’s name emerged as the consensus candidate. After this, the name was sent to the central leadership.
Asked about Rawat being unhappy, he said it was the party’s internal matter and will be sorted out.
“If anybody is unhappy, it is our internal matter. We will sort it out… There is enough inner democracy in the Congress,” Alvi said.
He said Rawat had already made it clear that he was not against the party leadership.
Alvi downplayed the absence from parliament of Rawat, union minister of state of parliamentary affairs and agriculture, for the second day running.
“He must be busy with something. He will come to parliament soon,” he said.
