Darbhanga youth clears Civil Services exam in first attempt

New Delhi: The Darbhanga district of Bihar has been in the news for wrong reasons for last six months – several local youths have been picked for their alleged involvement in terror cases. But the Friday yesterday has brought a great news item – a local village youth has cracked India’s top Civil Services examination, and that too in his first attempt.

Md. Imteyaz Alam has qualified Civil Services Exam 2011 whose results were announced by UPSC on Friday. Alam is ranked 649 in the list of 910 successful candidates.

Alam did graduation in (Mechanical Engineering) at Aligarh Muslim University and then did MBA from there. He worked with private companies both in India and Saudi Arabia before starting his full fledge preparation for Civil Services in 2011.

He has always been of great help for the society since his student days. During his student period, he worked for starting of a school in his village, Bastawara in Darbhanga, recalls Imteyaz Ahmed, Alam’s classmate in engineering at AMU.

“His story is really inspirational as he left a lucrative job in Saudi Arabia in 2010 and returned back to India to prepare for IAS. He qualified in his first attempt,” informs Ahmed.

Md. Imteyaz Alam is among seven candidates who got coaching at Jamia Millia Islamia’s Centre for Coaching and Career Planning. This year 28 Muslims from across the country have qualified for Civil Services.
