Hyderabad : Presidential candidate P.A. Sangma was Monday denied permission to meet YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Chanchalguda Central Jail here.
Sangma drove to the jail to call on Jaganmohan Reddy to seek his party’s support for his candidature. The jail officials, however, refused to give him permission to meet the member of parliament.
Sangma, who is being supported by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), criticised the jail officials for denying him permission though he had sought it 15 days ago.
Sangma later called on Jaganmohan Reddy’s mother and YSR Congress Party honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma and sought her party’s support.
The former Lok Sabha speaker alleged that the jail officials were adopting double standards. He wondered how they allowed Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi to call on Jaganmohan Reddy last week.
Owaisi had urged Jagan, as the YSR Congress leader is popularly called, not to support the NDA in the presidential election.
YSR Congress leader M.V. Mysoora Reddy said the party would take a decision after discussion.
Jagan’s party has two MPs, including himself, and 17 legislators in Andhra Pradesh state assembly.
