Chopra falls apart in final round, finishes 51st

Christchurch (IANS) : Indo-Swede Daniel Chopra’s game fell apart in the final round as he failed to make a single birdie and instead had four bogeys and a double bogey for a card of 78 that saw him drop from tied 11th to tied 51st at the New Zealand Open golf here Sunday.

Chopra had bogeys on second, ninth, 13th and then finished with a double bogey ion 17th and bogey on 18th for a six-over 78 his worst round of the week.

England’s Richard Finch kept his nerve to claim his first professional title. Finch, the overnight leader by three strokes drained a 12-foot par putt on the 18th for an even-par 72, following rounds of 73, 65 and 64 for a total of 14-under 274.

Australian stars Steven Bowditch (72) and Paul Sheehan (69) were unable to bridge the gap that had swelled to six shots after the front nine. In the end, Bowditch and Sheehan ended tied second at 11-under 277.

Peter Fowler, also from Australia, who had a 62 in third round, shot 73 in final round and finished tied 11th.
