New Delhi : Apprehensive of violence in Delhi University during the upcoming university elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday “appealed” to Delhi Police to depute more security in the campus.
“We appeal to the Delhi Police commissioner (Neeraj Kumar) to beef up security in Delhi University for the next two days as we have heard that people from outside Delhi, particularly from Haryana, have been brought by the Congress to create ruckus during the elections,” BJP Delhi unit president Vijender Gupta said.
He was speaking at the Delhi BJP office, backing candidates from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). ABVP is the students front of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Gupta also urged the college management not to allow anyone inside the campus for the next two days without any identity cards.
Meanwhile, national and state politics appear to be shadowing the university elections as well, with the BJP seeking votes against the Congress’s student front National Students Union of India (NSUI) on the basis of the alleged scams and corruption in Delhi and in the central government.
With just two days left for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, Gupta, vouching for ABVP candidates said: “It is time for the youngsters to express their acrimony by voting against the corrupt Congress, which is responsible for coal block allocation scam and the 2G spectrum scam.”
Slamming Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s Congress-led government as being responsible for steep water and power tariff hikes, Gupta said: “People have already shown their anger by defeating the Congress candidates in the municipal corporation elections. Now it is the turn of DUSU elections.”
DUSU elections will be held on Sep 14.
