OAPEC, in a statement released on sidelines of the conference on Saturday, said the conferees should seek to devise plans to cut the emissions, provided such an approach would not undermine interests of the developing nations.

The organization called for financial allocations for the develoing countries within “framework of the special fund” for financing projects to protect the environment, noting necessity of action by the G-77 and China to nudge the major industrial powers to honor their international commitments for safeguarding the planet.

The conferees should discuss development and transfer of “clean technology, ” the oil organization said in its statement, affirming right of the developing nations, whose economies depend on fossil fuel, to benefit from the Kyoto-linked funds.
