Miniscule increase in India’s space budget

New Delhi : India’s space budget saw a minuscule increase of over one percent for 2013-14 with a decrease in allocations in the country’s manned mission initiative and lunar mission.

The government allocated Rs.6,792 crore ($1,266 million) this year to the department of space compared to Rs.6,715 crore($1,252 million) in 2012.

The budgetary allocation for the country’s manned mission initiative and human space flight programme was reduced to Rs. 27 crore this year from Rs. 60 crore in 2012.

The budget for Indian Lunar Mission saw a drop to Rs.2.34 crore from Rs.5.83 crore.

The government has allocated Rs.167 crore for the Mars Orbiter Mission.
