Hyderabad : A special court Tuesday sent an accused in 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case, to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for 15 days.
The court dealing with NIA cases allowed the agency to take custody of Rajender Choudhary alias Samundar for questioning him in connection with May 18, 2007 terror attack, which killed nine people and injured dozens of others.
Rajender, also an accused in Samjhauta blast and other terror attacks, was brought to Hyderabad last week by the NIA on a on a prisoner’s transit (PT) warrant from Panchkula in Haryana. The court on March 4 had sent him to judicial custody.
The NIA officials are hoping to get vital information from Rajender, who had allegedly planted the bomb on the premises of the mosque. He is also suspected to be involved in the killing of Sunil Joshi, a key accused in the blast case who was gunned down in December 2007 following differences with his associates.
Rajender is the sixth accused to be arrested by the NIA in the case. Devender Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Swamy Aseemanand, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar alias Bharat Bhai and Tejaram were already arrested. Two others, Sandeep V. Dange and Ramchandra Kalsangra are absconding.
Most of them are also accused in 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing, which had claimed 68 lives.
