Kolkata : A day after the city’s Rabindra Bharati University ordered a probe into its registrar Subrata Ghosh being caught on tape dancing, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu Tuesday sought to know how an “internal matter” of the university was leaked in public domain.

After the video showing Ghosh dancing around with male and female teachers inside the university premises was made public, vice chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury ordered a probe into the matter.

“The university is setting up a committee to probe the matter. Besides what happened during the incident, I would also like to know, how the incident which happened within the four walls of the university came out in public,” Basu said reacting to the incident which has been criticised by several quarters.

Defending Ghosh’s dancing act, Basu said he was eager to know the identity of the “registrar’s well-wisher” who leaked the video.

“Seeing the video, it is obvious that a well-wisher of Ghosh must have caught the act in his mobile and leaked it. I am eager to know who this well-wisher is,” said Basu.

He also said the university should not be confused with a regular university as it imparts lessons on performing arts.

Registrar Ghosh had admitted Monday it was “undesirable” to dance but sought to justify it by saying he did to strengthen solidarity with his juniors and colleagues.

The university was earlier mired in another controversy after members of a students’ union were caught on tape dancing vulgarly in an inebriated state inside the union room.
