New Delhi : A Delhi court Tuesday issued warrants against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) parliamentarian Dhananjay Singh and his wife, who were arrested in connection with the murder of their maid.
Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha issued the warrant against Singh and Jagriti Singh for Dec 5 presence after they earlier failed to appear before court.
According to court sources, the court was informed that the couple could not be brought before it as the police officials, who escort accused from jail to court, were busy with election duty for the Dec 4 assembly polls.
Under the circumstances, their judicial custody till Dec 5 will be extended by the magistrate posted in the jail, defence counsel said.
Dhananjay Singh, who represents the Jaunpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and booked for destroying evidence and violating provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. His wife Jagriti was booked for murder, attempt to murder and for violating the Juvenile Justice Act after the maid died of injuries suffered as a result of alleged torture.
