Colombo : Sri Lanka troops continued on Friday their offensive against Tamil rebel strongholds across the northern region, after the end of a ceasefire in place since 2002.
A dispatch from the Ministry of Defense reported in Colombo that government forces destroyed a concrete bunker of the Tamil Tigers in Kallikulam area, in the northern district of Vavuniya.
In that operation, four members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam lost their lives and another was wounded. Four soldiers were also injured.
In Jaffna district, in the peninsula of the same name, soldiers wounded four separatists and destroyed three refuges, according to an official report.
Clashes take place after the Colombo government decided to officially end with the about six years of ceasefire, which was not respected by either of the two parties.
