Addis Ababa : A delegation from the European Union (EU) has visited Baidoa, Somalia, for talks with the top officials of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia to assure the government of international support, according to a SomaliNet report from Baidoa.
The delegation, which was in Boadoa on Saturday, was led by French Ambassador to Kenya Elizabeth Barber. The delegation members met the Somali Parliament Speaker, Acting President Sheikh Aden Madobe and Prime Minister Nor Adde, the report said.
The delegation also included the ambassadors of Britain, Italy Norway, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
The EU officials showed their support for the government led by Nor Adde and said the EU would pay the salaries of the 275 Members of the Somali Parliament, currently based in Baidoa, in southwestern Somalia.
“Each MP will receive 1,200 USD per month but the condition is that all the lawmakers should be available for the parliament sessions,” the report quoted the EU delegation as saying.
The delegation also had talks with members of 14 committee of the parliament and urged them to devote efforts to making the parliament sessions more successful.
