Guwahati: ‘MY FACTS’, A Peer Reviewed Multidisciplinary Annual Journal’ is a reality now for a bunch of youngsters under the banner MY-FACTS – Muslim Youth Forum Against Communalism, Terrorism and Sedition.
The journal, published under Bagh Hazarika Centre for Cultural Studies, another initiative of the My Facts group – which works for the uplift of the downtrodden of the society – was formally released at the My Facts office on Sunday.
“We are extremely glad, it involved plenty of hard work by the ‘My Facts’ team and also the well wishers. The well wishers have contributed their valuable well researched articles for the journal. We would like to thank all those people,” journal’s editor Sofiul Islam Khan told TwoCircles.net.
“We always wanted to do something like this, which really works for the welfare of the downtrodden of the society. We have included not just the Muslims, but also the dalits, tea tribes and others. There was always a lack in well researched based work. If we can continue doing like this, it will be great for the state and its people,” Khan added.
In the first volume, 18 papers contributed by scholars and academicians across the country from various fields of specializations were published. The papers in this volume categorized systematically as History of Assam and North East, Caste and Gender Studies, North East Studies, Literature, Art and Craft, Peasant, Minority and depressed class.
The Journal team has also welcomed and encouraged original research papers, theoretical debates, exchange of ideas, papers, articles, book reviews, notes and comments between 2500- 4000 words in English.
Besides highlighting several historical issues and developments, My Facts has also focused on the present status of the Muslims, Dalits and also the status of women.
Alim Ullah Tanwar, general secretary of MYFACTS said the group since the beginning in 2012 has been trying to bring a change among the community. “We are not seeking political or other help; we just want to help the community in our way, including spreading awareness for education, doing researches for the cultural identity,” Tanwar said.
Several dignitaries including former Guwahati University professor, senior advocates, former top government officials and journalists were present for the launch. “It’s a very positive move by these youth. A book can be very powerful tool to build a society and lead towards development,” Nurul Laskar, a senior journalist, said. Akdas Ali Mir, senior advocate and member of Assam State Waqf Board, was also present among others.
