New Delhi : With an eye firmly on the next elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has zeroed in on internal security and the Ram Sethu as its thrust issues in the political resolution passed by the party’s national council Tuesday.
“The BJP has declared an all out war on the Congress government for its failure on all fronts, be it its foreign policy or price rise or farmers’ plight. But the hallmark of the political resolution is internal security and Ram Sethu,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told IANS.
The BJP Tuesday concluded a three-day meet at the sprawling Ramilia Grounds here that was re-christened Vijay Sankalp Parisar (the venue where you resolve to attain victory).
The meeting was aimed at readying party cadres for the next general elections and to endorse L.K. Advani as the party’s prime ministerial candidate at the next poll.
The political resolution had been read out to members of the national executive on Sunday.
“It (the resolution) has critically reviewed the functioning of the three and a half years of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and pinpoints its failures, comparing these with the past and present achievements of the BJP/NDA governments,” said a senior BJP leader.
The session concludes with a ‘Margadarshan’ (guidance) valedictory address by Advani later Tuesday, who is expected to detail how the party will go about achieving its goals in the run up to the polls.
The BJP is of the view that Sethusamudram Shipping canal project between India and Sri Lanka will damage the Ram Sethu or Adam’s Bridge, a chain of limestone shoals it believes is mentioned in the Ramayana and is the bridge built by Hanuman and his army of monkeys to rescue Sita.
