“Between Cuba and Cape Verde are strong friendship links, born from the support given to the Cape Verde independence process by Cuba, and later to its development, which is reflected in different sectors,” he said.

Cuban collaboration in technology, education and public health made it possible for Cape Verde to advance from among the most backward countries, he added.

Before being received at the Cuban Foreign Ministry by Minister Felipe Perez Roque, Barbosa paid tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at his monument in Havana.

Perez Roque regarded relations between Cuba and Cape Verde as excellent, and said he and Barbosa would analyze important topics such as collaboration to strengthen bilateral links.

He also recalled almost 900 Cape Verde young people have studied and graduated in Cuba.

The visitor heads the delegation of his country to the 15th Session of the Cuba-Cape Verde Inter Governmental Commission in the Cuban capital.

Barbosa and his delegation will meet with other Cuban ministers and leaders, and visit historic, social and scientific locales.
