Muslim Ulema condemn WB govt.’s compulsory registration of marriage move

Kolkata: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has condemned the West Bengal government’s move for compulsory registration of marriages. President of the reception committee of AIMPLB’s 20th session in Kolkata, Maulana Hakim Irfanul Husaini, said the move is a clear interference in Muslim religious matters. He said this attempt is meant to pave the way for enforcing uniform civil code in this country. Addressing a gathering of the representatives of Muslim organizations of West Bengal attending the meeting, he said Muslims have faced such storms earlier and are ready to confront it now.

General Secretary of the reception committee, Sultan Ahmad, aid West Bengal government wants to challenge Muslims and test their self-respect. He said before this episode, Muslims of Kolkata have demonstrated their solidarity in the Shah Bano Case. Today Muslims are much more united and organized, and they will confront any anti-Islam storm, he said.
