New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and a host of leaders Sunday evening greeted Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad at his residence on his 60th birthday.
Lalu Prasad cut the birthday cake in the presence of Manmohan Singh and Gandhi at his 25, Tughlaq Road residence. A number of central ministers including Nationalist Congress Party chief and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar also attended the event.
The celebrations in fact commenced Sunday, when after the conclusion of the RJD national executive meet at the Vithalbhai Patel House, party leaders retreated to Lalu's residence for dinner, which was followed by a qawwali session and a kavi sammelan.
Political observers said the celebrations Monday evening also provided a platform for allies to discuss the hot issue of presidential elections next month, but RJD sources said there was no need for such talks.
"Our leader has already expressed full support to the prime minister and the UPA chairperson and their decision on the candidate will be acceptable to us," said a senior RJD leader.
