Among the injured was also the train driver, according to a railway spokesman.

Most injuries were reported to be minor.

The train did not derail in the accident, the report added.

The tree dropped on the rail tracks as a result of hurricane ‘Emma’ which had been whiplashing through north and northwestern Germany at a speed of up to 150 kilometers an hour.

Fallen trees and cut electric power lines had also disrupted railway traffic across the country over the past hours.
