Brussels : The European Union (EU) will collaborate on policy, regulatory and research matters in the area of information and communication technology to deepen ties with India, EU Commissioner Viviane Reding has said.
Reding, EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media, will be on a four-day visit to India March 24-27.
“The purpose of the visit is to learn about the progress of India in terms of technology and in terms of media,” Reding told EuAsiaNews in an interview in Brussels Thursday.
India’s role in the Information and Communication technology “is very important because it is developing very quickly.
“India is also gearing up its education in order to have highly skilled work force. India is a huge market,” she added.
“Therefore, the three elements (policy, regulatory and research matters) will be of outmost importance for a close collaboration between Europe and India in the future.”
Reding will have a busy schedule during her stay in New Delhi and Mumbai March 24-27.
“I really look forward not only to meet my colleague ministers but also to meet the industry in order to know from them the problems to overcome, the solutions and their aims of collaborating and working together with Europe,” she said.
Reding is expected to meet Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Andimuthu Raja, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman of Knowledge Commission Sam Pitroda and industry groups.
