In a brief statement after having lunch with French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the Argentine head of state said that Sarkozy has promised to visit Buenos Aires in 2009.

Our links have been constantly developed for the last few years and they continue strengthening even more, as well as those with the European Union, Cristina said.

Fernandez de Kirchner also met with French Prime Minister Francois Fillon on Monday to discuss the Argentine debt with the Paris Club, worth about 6 billion dollars, according to diplomatic sources.

They also talked about the possibility of moving forward with a planned humanitarian hostage swap in Colombia, and the Latin America-European Union Summit to be held in Lima, Peru, in May.

Previously, Cristina participated in the inauguration of Paris’ new Garden of Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Estela de Carlotto and Marta Vazquez, leaders of that Argentine civil rights group.
