While the BJP is talking about the development works it says it has undertaken in the past four years, the Congress is accusing the government of corruption.

Although 12 candidates are in the fray, the main contest is between the BJP’s Hemant Khandelwal and Sukhdev Panse of the Congress.

The Samajwadi Party’s Sunilam is also a force to reckon with. He is a legislator from Multai assembly seat. It is one of eight assembly segments that constitute the Betul Lok Sabha constituency.

The Congress is upbeat because of its recent victories in the Khargone Lok Sabha and Sanver assembly by-elections.

The Betul by-election, necessitated due to the death of BJP MP Vijay Kumar Khandelwal, is the last by-poll before Madhya Pradesh picks a new assembly later this year.

Political activists think that whosoever wins this by-poll will have a natural advantage in the assembly election.
