Brussels : EU Commissioner for External Relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, congratulated Saturday the Nepalese people For holding a “calm, orderly and well-organised elections” held on Thursday.
“I congratulate the Nepalese people for their strong commitment to the democratic process in their country. I encourage everybody to remain calm and patiently await the election results, she said in a statement.
The Commissioner said she hoped the constituent assembly polls will be the “first step in Nepal ‘s process to restoring a representative and vibrant democracy in the country. ” The EU has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Nepal , led by a Member of the European Parliament. The EOM will stay on the ground until mid May to observe the post-election developments. First results showed that the Maoist party has won four out of the seven seats already declared.
