And if the regional meteorological department is to be believed, people in the state will have to face worse as the temperature is expected to touch the dreaded 44-degree mark.

“The daytime temperature has risen to 43 degree Celsius in several districts and towns,” according to a bulletin of the weather department Tuesday.

Further rise in temperatures is expected during the next one week and April may end with 44 degrees Celsius for the first time in the past decade, the bulletin said.

The bulletin said maximum temperatures in Raigarh and Raipur have remained around 43 degrees since Sunday.

Normally the state witnesses a little over 40 degrees in late April or first week of May but 43 degree Celsius so early has surprised many.

The heat wave has severely affected normal life in Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Dhamtari and Rajnandgaon districts.
