Kuwaiti Amir donates US$100,000 to radiology society

Kuwait : The Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah donated a sum of USD 100,000 to support radiology medicine activities, Chairman of Kuwait Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Society Dr. Najib Al-Marzouk said Sunday.

The official told KUNA half the sum would back current training programs and the other half will be awarded in prize under His Highness’ name to the best radiology research work.

Al-Marzouk said such initiative expressed faith in the importance of scientific research.
The donation and the award will be presented in the Moroccan city of Marrakech on June 5, 2008. The ceremony will be attended by Morocco’s King Mohamed VI and a US Department of Health and Human Services representative.

He said that the International Society of Radiology (ISR), Washington-based, is holding radiology and nuclear medicine meetings every two years, noting that the next meeting will be held in Morocco, then China in 2010, and Dubai in 2012.

Al- Marzouk underscored Kuwait’s pioneering in the radiology field in the region, which earned the state frequent praise by both the ISR and GCC states.

The latter also request Kuwaiti help, including Bahrain which requested assistance on a counter-radiation program. There were also requests to train medical staff from Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain.

The official expressed his satisfaction over Kuwait’s nomination for membership in the International Society of Radiology’s executive office.
