The sudden overcast sky, the wind and huge swirls of dust caught many office-goers unawares. The weather, however, turned sunny as the afternoon set in. The capital Wednesday recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degrees Celsius.

In the rest of the country, the weather remained somewhat pleasant as the sporadic rains and thundershowers have brought the temperatures down.

The weather will remain same until Saturday in most parts of the country, the weatherman said.

The meteorological department has forecast rain and thundershowers in western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, north Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Orissa and north-eastern states.

Isolated squall is also expected in many places in the region.

The department in its evening bulletin said a low-pressure area that was developed in the east-central Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Myanmar still persists. However, the chance of its intensification into a tropical cyclone is unlikely.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will continue to receive widespread rainfall until Monday.
