Dhaka : There is no room for confusion about holding general elections in the country by December next as the government is determined to hold the polls according to its announced roadmap.
Quoting Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said this at a joint press briefing at the Chief Adviser’s Office on Tuesday after dialogue with the business community.
The business leaders said the country’s businessmen do not want to go back to the politics of chaos and conflict any more. They want a qualitative change in politics, not merely an election, they added.
They said programmes like hartal, strike, siege, rampage and stoppage of port, which destroy national economy, should be stopped through enacting law, for at least 10 to 15 years to build a prosperous nation.
As part of dialogue with the citizens, on the first day, about 300 representatives of various business community from across the country attended the exchange of views held at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
About 70 businessmen interacted in the two and a half-hour dialogue, held in presence of Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed.
Communications Adviser Maj Gen (retd) Ghulum Quader, Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, LGRD and Cooperatives Adviser M Anwarul Iqbal and Law Adviser AF Hassan Ariff attended the dialogue.
FBCCI President Annisul Haque, who also addressed the joint press briefing, led the business community at the dialogue.
Business leaders including Syed Manzur Elahi, BKMEA President Fazlul Haque, Paritush Kanti Saha, Afzal Hossain, Belayet Hossain and Liakat Ali Bhuyian, among others, were present.
