Moscow : Russian President Dmitri Medvedev attends his first Summit with the leaders of the Community of Independent States in St. Petersburg.
The meeting will unfold amid serious tension with Ukraine and Georgia due to Russian aid to rebels in Abjasia and South Ossetia.
The agenda includes plenary session with all 12 statesmen and several of Medvedev bilateral meetings with counterparts from the region.
Presidential aide Serguei Prijodko said all the presidents have confirmed their attendance to this meeting arranged by Russian ex President Vladimir Putin.
The summit will address the Russia-Ukraine and Russia-Georgia conflicts involving Sujumi and Tsinvali that threaten to destabilize the region, plus economic cooperation and multilateral cooperation in energy and transportation.
The CIS Summit will run along the 12th International Economic Summit of St. Petersburg with over 8,000 guests.
