Australian PM stresses important ties with Japan

Canberra : Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said here on Sunday that the relationship with Japan was in first class working order.

“The relationship is in first class working order,” Rudd told the Ten Network in the morning before leaving for Tokyo for his first visit as prime minister to Japan.

“Japan is a partnership which is anchored in our comprehensive engagement on strategic matters, security matters and economic matters. The Asia-Pacific region involves many important states, Japan is critical,” he said.

The prime minister has been criticized for failing to visit Japan during a recent round the world trip.
